East West was launched as a dedicated Location Consultancy out of a background in mainstream economic development consultancy.

We continue to work with various clients on economic development and regeneration related projects where a deeper understanding of 'location' or 'place' beyond simple economic analysis is important. Most typical is our work for inward investment agencies, Regional Development Agencies and now Local Enterprise Partnerships in defining, analysing or promoting the various socio-economic characteristics of locations.

For development and regeneration clients our research provides an independent insight into economic conditions ahead of new initiatives or funding bids. It can act as a baseline for regular revision or the subsequent evaluation of economic projects. In addition, our area and town centre Location Reviews^© have been used as part of City Strategy and LEGI bids by several local authority clients.

In other instances we have been able to provide sector assessments of areas and sub-regions related to business support services or business development and attraction activities for inward investment agencies. Our client list reflects the variety of uses for such economic analysis.

During 2010 we have also been able to provide information to groups of local authorities forming Local Enterprise Partnerships based on Functional Economic Geographies since we have been working with non-standard economic geographies since our beginnings - our so called Journey To Work Areas for example.

As an early exponent of meaningful analysis being based on how people move around and interact with a location in contrast to an arbitrary political boundary or standard administrative geography we fully support the increasing move towards considering non-standard geographic areas such as City Regions, LEPs and Business Improvement Districts in UK policy making.

We continue to publish our location marketing literature for clients using the Journey To Work Area (JTWA). Primary market research that has enabled us to assemble a Location Database^© of over 250 UK employment locations since our work began in 1998.
